SAFETY SURVEY

Creating this survey about students' safety is an important step in Safe Steps After Dark. Leaving a gain and a deeper understanding of many students' experiences. With the feeling of being unsafe while moving around our campus at night. Whether students are coming from evening class, walking back to their dorms, or even participating in different activities offered by UMSL. By getting this information from the survey, I noticed clearly the lack of isolated areas, and some to no presence of security around campus.

After noticing and gaining different points of view, it will lead to the development of improvement around campus. With this including, including an increase in police patrol, later running transportation hours, and other positive initiatives. Leaving a space where students can feel comfortable to relay their experience of being unsafe. Recognizing this helps build a meaningful change and correctly demonstrates why UMSL Campus Safety is a priority.

Personally, travelling through the campus, I've never encountered the feeling of being unsafe. Considering all my classes are in the morning, I've never been in a situation where my safety was compromised. Leaving the thought, and empathy for students who revealed their experiences, and helped with creating different improvements. Creating a safe environment, once again. Attending the campus of UMSL, and not noticing students' uncoverings of doubt in their safety, showed the lack of negative attributions to students' daily campus life.

Many students at UMSL stated they normally result in walking around campus due to commuting to classes and dorms. Walking around seems crucial for students who might lack transportation, or simply for those who choose to walk. Either way, improvement must be prominent and taken seriously for the safety of students.

This answer of amount of how many students commute by walking uncovers the personal experiences of students feeling unsafe as well. In the survey, I noticed the majority of little number of applicants of the survey chose “feeling somewhat upset” more over then te optionof feeling safe. Leaving the conclusion of what the reasoning is behind students feeling unsafe. And how can this ultimately lead to a resolution of creating a safer campus?

The solution coming from the survey showed students want improvements with adding the following suggestions: Frequent police patrols, emergency call boxes, and better campus shuttle hours are the best way for improvement. All these are beyond beneficial, bringing students to be comfortable without being hesitant about their safety.
