Campuses are popularly known for higher education, growth, and most importantly, the gift of learning. Even with these beneficial offerings, campuses continue to lack safety for students commuting throughout the campus at night. Whether it's heading back to dorms after class or walking from a night shift working on campus, it's a vital example of how crucial safe steps after dark truly are. Particularly in this situation, it specifically focuses on UMSL and its lack of student safety at night. Having countless dimly lit areas and a lack of security presence, considering there's an on-site police department on UMSL’s campus, shows the neglect of student safety, which clearly needs improvement.
Safety at night isn't just for the feeling of comfort, but also about ensuring students have the freedom to move around campus without fear. But, when students feel this rigid feeling, it takes away from our campus's reliability and a sense of equality among the attending students. Not only the student, but everyone should feel safe without compromising their safety. In this introduction, I'm hoping to specifically find the victims of this situation, and leave a feeling of assurance of improvements to the given issue.
This project aims to highlight these safety issues and advocate for safety improvements throughout the campus. Showing each experience and taking it quite seriously. Leaving every student heard, and what's their request for improvements in students' safety.
